Oxford, with its historic buildings, natural green areas and parks as well as its cultural wealth, has always been very popular with students from all over the world.
There is plenty to see and do in and around Oxford. You don’t need to go far afield to enjoy riverside walks or punting on the river. You can hire boats for punting at Magdalen Bridge, Folly Bridge and Bardwell Road.
In May you can live the excitement of Oxford University's main intercollegiate rowing event, the Oxford University Eights Week Student Rowing Regatta, or in August, you can watch the Oxford City Royal Regatta from the gardens of Christ Church which is in the heart of Oxford.
There are many interesting historical pubs in and around Oxford. For example, Kings Arms pub in the city centre dates back to the 15th century. Eagle and Child pub in St Giles Street used to be frequented by prominent writers such as J.R.R. Tolkien and C.S. Lewis.
Oxford is also a city with very rich cultural activities. There are many theatres, cinemas, museums, galleries, university colleges and parks.
Phoenix cinema is one of the oldest cinemas in Oxford, dating back to 1913. It is well known for screening classical films, including those from other countries with subtitles.
Ashmolean Art and Archeological Museum is the first public museum in England. It opened in 1683 and hosts a large arts and crafts collection of the university. Entrance is free to the museum which also facilities for conferences, exhibitions and private functions.
In the Oxford Museum you can find wide ranging information about Oxford and its universities whilst Oxford Modern Arts hosts a very good collection of contemporary art.
Although we don’t currently know when the university was founded, it’s been educating students since 1096. To this day it’s known as one of the most respected universities around. It has over 18,000 students from more than 130 different countries.
Oxford University consists of 39 colleges including seven Christian supported colleges. Each college provides graduate and post graduate education for students.
