What is Educational Consultancy?
As DUSE (Do You Speak English) our mission is to provide information, advice and guidance on educational institutions to people of all ages and of all walks of life who wish to improve their English and further their personal and professional development in England.  
The consultation we offer is free of charge. We take great care to select high quality and appropriate services to individuals and groups, taking their needs, means and aims into consideration.  
We show our potential students the options open them in education and offer them assistance regarding various other aspects of life in the UK, e.g.  accommodation, social life and cultural opportunities.

How can all these services be free?
Educational Consultancy is provided by a number of commercial firms in the UK and elsewhere. This activity is, in effect, a simple way of marketing.  When we hear of such marketing techniques, the first thing that comes to mind is “If it is a free service, how then do these firms make their money and manage to stand on their feet?” The truth is that these Educational Consultants get from the schools they work with a commission for each student they register with the school and this is the reason they can afford to offer their services to potential students free of charge. The Educational Consultancy firms abroad do not request any fees from the students but the majority of these firms offer the students the educational packages of the schools they have a contract with. When you walk into the offices of any Educational Consultancy service, first they will ask you which country and which town you would like to go to. And they will offer you those schools first which give their firm the highest commission rates.

We at DUSE are different. Our main difference is that we are student centred. We pride ourselves in publicising and providing education programs in the UK which are totally and uniquely “TAILOR-MADE” for each individual depending on their budget, their personal interests and the area they wish to pursue their education in.  Our aim is not to register our potential students in any school and in any program but to offer them opportunities   commensurate with their budgets, interests and needs in high quality educational establishments.

Can I apply on line for my visa?
Yes, of course you can; but please do not forget that during your application stage, you will be asked many questions. When you make your visa application, again you may want quite detailed advice. As DUSE Educational Consultants, we will make it much easier for you by giving you free information, advice and guidance.

We will help you find a school and accommodation.  The school fees and accommodation charges we will propose to you are the fees and charges set by the schools and accommodation providers. DUSE will not charge you any additional fees on top of these. The reduced rate fees which schools will prepare exclusively for DUSE students will be forwarded to you at certain intervals.

As a student, can I work in the UK?
If you are registered on a course for a period of more than six months, you will have the legal right to work in the UK for 20 hours/week. From the first day you arrive in England, DUSE will provide you with information as to how to apply for your national Insurance Number (which will enable you to work) and where to go to seek employment.

When can I start my education?
General English classes start on Mondays.  Vocational or professional education programs follow the timetables of the schools’ or colleges’ academic year.

When can I apply for my visa?
Except for very busy periods (e.g. beginning of the academic year, summer period, Christmas, New Year and religious festivals) you will be able to obtain your visa within 15 days of your application; in certain circumstances, it may even take less. For the busy periods, we would advise you to make your application two months before you intend to start your trip.

How long will it take me to get my visa?
Visas are usually issued within one or two weeks of your application. If you have travelled abroad in the last five years prior to applying, then your application will be prioritised and you will be able to get your visa in maximum one week, except, of course, in the busy periods as defined above.

Can you briefly tell us about the type of education in the schools?
Especially in language schools, you may find the education quite different from the type of education you are used to from Turkey.  Although some education institutions in Turkey have started to employ similar methods in recent years, the greatest difference is that when you are here, you are continuously exposed to English and have to use it in your daily life. Education is centered around the learner rather than imposed by the teacher. Your teachers will encourage you to speak fluently and confidently rather than stopping you and correcting every mistake you make.  Greater emphasis will be put on practical and group work, encouraging you to speak confidently in social and academic settings. At the same time, you will be given assignments which will not only enhance your skills to research resources in English, learn new words, terms and idioms but also to review your work and correct your mistakes with the help of your teachers.

How many learners are in the classrooms?
Classroom capacity is in general no more than 15-20 learners.

What is the number of Turkish students in the schools?
This changes from school to school and from period to period; however, the ratio of Turkish students in the schools we work with is around 20% of the total student body.

Am I going to get a certificate at the end of my education program?
Learners have to attend 85% of the lessons. If you have attended your classes regularly and without fail, then you will get a certificate from your school.

What do I have to do to go into university in the UK?
In order to be able to apply to a university place in the UK, first and foremost, you need to have graduated from high school in Turkey.  The requirements for application differ from university to university.
In any case, you need to have achieved at least 6.0 or above at the IELTS test (showing your competence in using the English language); you also need to have successfully completed a Foundation course which would prepare you to enter university.

Can I extend my visa to stay in the UK while I am there?
If you have come to the UK for a long term (28 weeks or above) course and completed your education, but would like to continue your studies in the UK,  you have to apply to the “Home Office” for an extension. When you make your application, you will need to submit your documents that you have extended your studies in the UK and any additional papers to the “Home Office” and ask for an extension of your visa.
However, if you have followed a short term (under 28 weeks) education program and would like to extend your studies, then you will be required to go back to Turkey, put together the correct documentation and make a fresh visa application.
As DUSE, we will continue to provide you with free consultancy in extending your visa; you should contact us at least one month before your visa expires for detailed information in this matter.

How can I come to an English language course while still working in Turkey?
DUSE has  special language and certificate programs for people who are working in Turkey but would like to further their career by improving their English on fast-track courses.
